Abstract: The integration of learning analytics in educational settings has the potential to revolutionize teaching and learning practices. However, the underlying political implications of these technologies are often overlooked. This study seeks to unpack the multifaceted political meanings embedded within learning analytics through the lens of game theoretic causal models. By applying game theory to analyze the causal relationships between various stakeholders in educational settings, we aim to illuminate the power dynamics, incentives, and strategic interactions that shape the implementation and outcomes of learning analytics initiatives. Through a critical examination of case studies and simulation models, we demonstrate how different actors within the educational ecosystem navigate and negotiate their interests in the context of learning analytics.
