Potential Abstract:
The intersections of race and aesthetics in educational contexts have long been a focal point of research in the field of education. However, the ways in which individuals, particularly educators, engage with these complex concepts in digital spaces such as GitHub remain understudied. This study seeks to explore how naive conceptions of race and aesthetics manifest within the GitHub community, a popular platform for sharing code and collaborating on projects. By employing a qualitative content analysis of GitHub repositories related to educational technology, we aim to uncover implicit biases, stereotypes, and assumptions that may influence the design and implementation of educational tools. The analysis will be guided by critical race theory and aesthetic theory to provide a nuanced understanding of how these concepts intersect within the digital educational milieu. Through this investigation, we hope to shed light on the ways in which race and aesthetics shape educational practices and contribute to the reproduction of inequities within educational systems.
