Potential Abstract: This research article explores the intricate intersection of complex politics, data science, and poststructural positionality within the field of education. Drawing upon poststructuralist theories and methodologies, the study delves into the ways in which power dynamics, societal structures, and individual subjectivities shape data practices and educational outcomes. By examining the role of data science in educational research and policymaking, this article critically analyzes how different power structures influence the production, dissemination, and interpretation of educational data. Furthermore, it investigates how researchers’ positions within these power dynamics, their subjectivities, and their relationships with data influence the knowledge production process.
This study adopts a poststructural lens to uncover the inherent complexities and tensions embedded within data-driven educational practices. Through this critical analysis, the research sheds light on the ways in which data can both empower and marginalize different educational stakeholders. By foregrounding issues of positionality and relationality, the article aims to contribute to a more nuanced understanding of the political implications of data use in education. Ultimately, this research emphasizes the importance of critically engaging with data science practices to promote more equitable and socially just educational systems.
