Potential Abstract: This research study delves into the intersection of democratic education, rural communities, Creative Commons, and critical pedagogy. By examining the potential of Creative Commons as a tool for promoting democratic ecologies in rural education settings, this study seeks to contribute to the ongoing discourse on fostering inclusive and equitable learning environments. The unique challenges faced by rural schools, such as limited resources, isolation, and cultural diversity, highlight the importance of innovative approaches that empower educators and learners to engage critically with open educational resources. Through a mixed-methods research design, this study will investigate the impact of integrating Creative Commons practices in rural classrooms, exploring how this approach can enhance student agency, promote collaborative learning, and support local community development. By adopting a critical lens, this study aims to uncover the underlying power dynamics and inequities that may influence the implementation of Creative Commons in rural educational settings, and to propose strategies for addressing these challenges. Ultimately, this research aims to contribute to the development of more socially just and inclusive educational practices that prioritize the needs and voices of rural learners and communities.
