Leveraging Counterfactuals and ChatGPT in Engineered Online MOOC Environments

Potential Abstract:
Recent advancements in artificial intelligence have led to the development of tools such as ChatGPT that can enhance online learning experiences. This study explores the use of counterfactual reasoning in leveraging ChatGPT within engineered online Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) environments to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes. By incorporating counterfactuals, which are hypothetical situations that explore alternative outcomes of events, educators can provide personalized feedback and support to students in a scalable online setting. The integration of ChatGPT allows for natural language interactions that mimic human conversation, enabling students to engage in meaningful dialogue and receive tailored assistance throughout their learning journey.

Through a mixed-methods approach involving data analytics and qualitative analysis of student interactions, this study investigates the impact of leveraging counterfactuals and ChatGPT in online MOOCs. The findings shed light on the effectiveness of using these tools to enhance student learning experiences, improve retention rates, and promote deeper engagement in online learning environments. Moreover, the study examines the implications for educators and instructional designers in leveraging AI technologies to create more personalized and adaptive online learning experiences.
