Potential Abstract:
Abstract: Large language models (LLMs) have gained significant attention in recent years due to their remarkable capabilities in generating human-like text. As LLMs continue to advance, they present immense potential for educational applications, particularly in the acquisition of cultural knowledge. This research article investigates the role of LLMs in facilitating naive conversations for cultural knowledge acquisition in educational settings.
This study employs a mixed-methods approach, including both quantitative and qualitative methods, to examine the impact of LLMs on cultural knowledge acquisition. A sample of students from diverse cultural backgrounds will engage in conversational interactions with an LLM designed to emulate human-like dialogue. The study will explore the extent to which LLMs can effectively deliver culturally relevant information and promote cultural sensitivity through conversational exchanges.
The research will assess the accuracy and comprehensibility of the cultural knowledge imparted by the LLM, using pre- and post- assessments to measure students’ knowledge gains. Additionally, qualitative data will be collected through interviews and focus groups to gain insight into students’ perceptions of the LLM’s conversational abilities and its efficacy in facilitating cultural knowledge acquisition. The study will also investigate potential challenges and limitations associated with using LLMs in educational contexts.
Findings from this research will shed light on the potential of LLMs as pedagogical tools for promoting cultural understanding and knowledge acquisition. Moreover, this study will contribute to the existing body of literature on the intersection of artificial intelligence and education by exploring the specific role of LLMs in fostering cultural competence.
